Morelia, Michoacán, 13 de septiembre de 2019.-Hoy conmemoramos en todo el País, el CLXXII Aniversario de la Gesta Heroica, de los Niños Cadetes, del Colegio Militar de Chapultepec, durante la Intervención Norteamericana.
En el año de 1846, el Presidente Norteamericano James Polk, le declaró la Guerra a nuestro País, para apoderarse del territorio que ocupaban las provincias mexicanas de, Alta California, Nuevo México y Chihuahua.
El 13 de septiembre de 1847, las tropas invasoras, asaltaron el Castillo de Chapultepec, sede del Colegio Militar, que fue bombardeado y pese a la defensa y resistencia de los 632 soldados, del Batallón de San Blas y 200 Cadetes del Colegio, comandados por el Gral. Nicolás Bravo, estos fueron derrotados debido a la superioridad numérica y material de los extranjeros, quienes hicieron prisioneros, al Gral. Bravo, a Mariano Monterde, Director del Colegio y a los demás sobrevivientes.
Fueron 6, los cadetes alumnos, que ofrendaron su vida para salvar a la Patria, de la invasión Militar Norteamericana. La historia cuenta, que su edad fluctuaba entre los 13 y 17 años, sus nombres son: Juan de la Barrera, Agustín Melgar, Fernando Montes de Oca, Vicente Suárez, Francisco Márquez y Juan Escutia, quien se arrojó al precipicio, envuelto en el Labaro Patrio, para impedir que quedase en manos del ejercito enemigo.
