Un 9 de agosto de 1782, nació en Tixtla Guerrero, Vicente Ramón Guerrero Saldaña, el último Héroe Insurgente, que logró hacer triunfar, la Guerra de Independencia en 1810.

Sus padres fueron, Pedro Guerrero y María Guadalupe Saldaña.

Aprendió los oficios de su padre, campesino, arriero y armero.

Participó en la Guerra de Independencia y asumió el mando, a la muerte del Generalísimo Morelos. Su padre Pedro Guerrero, por órdenes del Virrey, le pidió entregara sus armas a cambio del indulto y honores y su respuesta fue, «Padre, tu voz para mí es sagrada, pero la voz de mi Patria es lo primero».

Su estrategia la «guerra de guerrillas», atacando a los soldados realistas y ocultándose en las montañas del sur, hizo comprender a Agustín de Iturbide, que jamás lo iba a vencer y buscó pactar la paz, reconociendo la Independencia de México.

El Gral. Vicente Guerrero, aceptó el pacto que le ofreció el Gral. Iturbide, juntos proclaman el Plan de Iguala, suman sus ejércitos conformando el Ejército Trigarante, ambos se dan un abrazo en Acatémpan.
La entrada triunfal a la Cd. de México del Ejército Trigarante, ocurrió el 27 de septiembre de 1821. En un gesto de magnanimidad el Gral. Guerrero permite que Iturbide lo encabece. La primer bandera nacional mexicana la enarboló dicho ejercito y fue hecha por el sastre Magdaleno Ocampo.

Fue el segundo Presidente de México, su gobierno abolió la esclavitud, favoreció la causa campesina y promovió la educación pública gratuíta.
