Sabían que…..Hoy México inicia los festejos Patrios, conmemorando el CLXXIII, aniversario de la Batalla en el Castillo de Chapultepec, sede del Colegio Militar, del que eran alumnos los 6 niños que murieron en una batalla cuerpo a cuerpo, contra el ejército invasor de norteamérica, al mando del comandante Winfield Scott.

En el año de 1846, el Presidente de USA, James Polk, declaró la guerra a la Nación Mexicana y así apoderarse del territorio donde estaban asentadas las provincias de Chihuahua, Alta California y Nuevo México.
CORONEL, SANTIAGO XICOTENCATL
La defensa del Castillo de Chapultepec, (1847) último reducto militar, quedó a cargo de 632 soldados, del Batallón de San Blas, al mando del Coronel Santiago Xicoténcatl y 200 cadetes militares, al mando del Gral. Nicolás Bravo, quienes lucharon cuerpo a cuerpo, defendiendo con fiereza a la Nación.
La superioridad numérica, (7000 mil soldados), se impuso en esa épica batalla, en ella murieron los 6 cadetes niños, Vicente Suárez, Fernando Montes de Oca, Francisco Márquez, Juan de la Barrera, Agustín Melgar y Juan Escutia, quien se arrojó al precipicio envuelto en nuestra Bandera Mexicana, para evitar que el enemigo se apoderara de ella.
Para honrar la memoria de los 6 Niños Héroes, caídos en batalla, en 1881, se instituyó y conmemoró por primera vez, la celebración del 13 de septiembre, como fiesta cívica y sus nombres, quedaron inscritos con letras de oro, en el Muro de Honor, del Salón de Sesiones, del Congreso de la Unión.
